From here, for real
I was born in 1972 in Cortés de Osa, just south of Bahía Ballena. I grew up between Ballena de Osa, Tinoco and Uvita, long before the region appeared on travel maps, and in 1982 my family settled in San Isidro de El General, in Pérez Zeledón.
I studied International Business and Marketing at the University of Miami, earned an MBA at Pepperdine University and a Master’s in Marketing at the Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM) in Monterrey, Mexico. After corporate roles at Samsung Electronics (Latin America) and Capital One, I came back to tourism, where I have worked for more than twenty years.
Today I work on regenerative tourism, storytelling and conservation across Latin America, and I spend most of my time in Uvita de Osa. I also created PerezZeledon.com, the sister site of Pura Osa.
I started Pura Osa to share this region the way locals know it: wild, generous and worth protecting, and to send visitors to the families and projects that take care of it.
How we research and update our guides
- Local knowledge first. The guides come from a lifetime in the region and from conversations with boat captains, guides, rangers and lodge owners.
- Official sources for rules and fees. Park sectors, permits, hours and prices are checked with SINAC, the Museo Nacional de Costa Rica and the operators themselves.
- Dated and reviewed. Every guide shows when it was last updated. Time-sensitive pages, such as the Corcovado sector status, are reviewed every month.
- Our own photos. Most photos are by the author. Photos from businesses and institutions carry a small credit.
- Corrections. If something has changed, write to [email protected] and we will update the guide.
How we recommend and how we earn
Recommendations are never paid. A business appears because we trust it, and the origin seal marks places that are locally owned or benefit the community, hire locally, care for nature and give honest information.
Some links are affiliate links: if you book through them, Pura Osa may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. That keeps the site free, and part of those commissions goes back to the region through Support Osa.
